The clever folks over at Pitch Interactive have produced a beautiful visualization of 2008 Presidential Campaign donations. The result shows some striking differences between the campaigns – most noticeably, there is a huge imbalance in donations in the $1 – $100 range, with many more going to Mr. Obama’s campaign than to Mr. McCain. This impressive visualization comes from over 1.4 million rows of data obtained from the Federal Election Commission. I would love to see this at a large scale – 10′ x 10′ prints, perhaps?

hey jer! we’re working on a bigger size. it’s been tricky working with memory limitations, so we’ve been tweaking code to fix that and get bigger sizes. ultimately, the goal is to print out a full size print that would have all donors listed that would be at least somewhat legible, and 10′x10′ sounds about right. until then, we’ll be updating our smaller diagram as long as FEC keeps updating their data sets, so expect improvements for the remainder of the election season.
Hi Wes,
Thanks for the update. I’ll be checking in on your site to see how this thing progresses.
